Mr. GQ, the Scooter Daredevil

This picture cracks me up to no end. Pink sunglasses and hand-me-down clothing aside, I think he could be a child model. And I'm not biased at all :).
We had a wonderful visit with Nana and Papa this past week! Dad and Vance did a lot of fishing, and Mom and I did a lot of talking and park-visiting. We had pretty good weather, and it was really great to have family around. Too bad Claire and Vance were sick on and off during the visit.

Last week, Isaac figured out how to pedal his tricycle. That was big news in our world, and biking around became Isaac's new obsession. But this next development came waay sooner than I expected: using a scooter. I think of that as a big-boy piece of equipment, but Isaac figured out how to ride and push himself around. He's not going that fast yet, but just give him a week or two, and I'm going to need an amped-up first aid kit. :)

Look at that concentration!
Oh, and Mom & Dad, you left at just the right time for your weather tastes. The evening after you left, I noticed a definite change in the wind. Fall is here, and it's not going back.

9 Months

Claire had her 9 month checkup yesterday... she is 18 lbs 5 oz (43%) and 27 inches long (34%). The doctor said, "She's smaller than I thought she'd be," but nonetheless proclaimed her, "beautiful, happy, and healthy." I didn't have to go to the doctor to know that :)
She's my adorable toothless wonder. But that's fine with me...the doctor said teeth that come in later are healthier, anyway.
I told her how much Claire was eating, and Dr. McKay was floored. Apparently 2 slices of bread and a full adult-sized cereal bowl of veggies is a lot...about 6 times the average serving size. But I guess it's okay. Isaac did that too.
Besides, that's the way she likes it.
I'm starting to wonder if a tooth is about ready to show, though...she's been uncharacteristically grumpy the last day or so. (Although the ladies who watched her at ECFE this morning said, "She is the BEST baby ever!" when I came to get her.)
More updates on Isaac coming soon, I promise.

Indian Summer

We are relishing the last, brief fling of warmth that is Indian summer this week. I hope it lasts a few weeks...we'll see. Beautiful, warm days...evenings with just a hint of crispness that make you think you might, just might like to see fall come around the corner. So we are outside as much as possible, considering our fall schedule.

It's an easier schedule this year, since I'm teaching fewer students. We're still relatively busy, but we get more time at home, which is good for me. It can be easy to have home be a pit stop for eating and sleeping, so it will be good for us to have more down time here. You're not alone in that, Ellen!

Not too much other excitement around here, except that Vance gashed his lip open playing basketball and had to get 6 stitches in his lip. It was cute to see Isaac so concerned. He kept saying, "Daddy's going to the doctor, and he'll be ALLL better!" I was not feeling well the other day and was resting on the couch while Vance rubbed my head, and Isaac was a little worried about me, too. He came over to help Vance rub my head. What ensued felt a lot like a wrestling match than a headrub, so it's a good thing I love my kids and I wasn't feeling too sick! :)

Claire is pulling up on everything now, and eating just about all soft table foods. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel---the day where I stop spoon feeding! Now, if she could only grow some teeth...

I promise I didn't pose him!

My flower child. I have received dozens of dandelion gifts this summer. Now if I could only teach him to stop picking other people's real flowers :/

Claire's first ponytail! I feel like a real mom of a girl now...that and the fact that Claire has twice as many shoes as Isaac does (of course, that's not hard when he only has 2! :)

my sweeties

No headlines here, just a couple of pictures I snapped this morning of the cuties. It wasn't the most cheerfullest of days with everyone coming off of a post-Labor Day extravaganza high (pictures coming soon), but we had enough camaraderie going to get a few pictures.
